The middle 50 percent earned between $12.17 and $17.06. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $10.22, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $20.15." They also expect: "Employment of medical transcriptionists is projected to grow 14 percent from 2006 to 2016." In Medical Transcription speed and accuracy means money. In other words, the higher your WPM and the more knowledgeable you are in Medical Terminology, the more money you will make. There are several 'tips' you can use to increase your WPM, such as using a text expander software. If this is something you want to do from home, be sure to attend and AHDI 'approved' course. The top three are Career Step, Andrews, and M-Tec. Attending any one of these courses will be a great choice and give you the education you need to get started in the field. Most employers require years of experience OR graduation from an AHDI 'approved' course. I, personally, attended Career Step. I chose CS because they were partnered with MANY employers, self-paced (if you really put the time and work into it you can finish in a few months or take as long as you need), and more affordable than the others.
