I am going to be taking an online course to get my degree to be a medical transcriptionist; I really want to be able to work at home and i’ve heard this is possible. I wanted to know how likely this is? and why more of them don’t do it?

You can if you can find someone locally to employ you. The issue is patient confidentality, you have to have a secure, usually by hand, delivery system and be able to secure data both at home and on your computer.
The only medical facilities willing to do this would be those too small to hire someone to come in and use provided office space.

Working from home as a MT usually requires 2 years experience or more. There’s a lot more about MT jobs — in-house and remote — on the website below. There is a catch-22 in MT where it’s difficult to get a job without experience. It’s best to train with a company that will place you at least in an internship.
Yes they do get to work at home but some need experience and some do not. The following link can help you with this
