Do you need schooling to become an at home medical transcriptionist?

Educated answers only please, no guesses. Do you have to sign up for courses to learn coding?
I think I have the wrong in mind: I’m looking for the work-at-home medical position where you solely convert Dr.’s into . Transcriptioning is not what I was thinking of, apparently. Thanks for that though, Lori!

Its called a medial billing specialist. Im taking classes right now through a community college. Im taking classes online. I have already taken medical terminology, CPT coding and ICD-9_CM coding. The next classes that I have to take Is CPT coding (advanced) and Medical billing. After these four classes, you are eligible to work. THere are a couple more classes to take, like Anatomy and physiology . but you have to work as a coder for two years before you are eligible to become certified. You convert format into codes or document format. the classes are only two months each and self paced (i finished my first two in a month)

Yes, you need to complete the Medical Transcription program. There are vocational or technical schools you can go to, to learn just Medical Transcription and get your certification. Working from home as a Medical Transcription can be tough, you get paid by word or line. You have to be very accurate and type extremely fast, not to mention be able to understand docs w/heavy accents. Most place will not hire you to work from home directly out of school, so you may need to consider working somewhere first for a while to build up work experience. It usually best so you can become familiar w/the job and get help and understanding since you would be new to the job. The better you are at transcription the better the type of salary you can make from working at home.

Hope this help!
