im in new jersey and i want to work from home as a medical transcriptionist. i know a few doctors who can avail of my service but im not familiar how the process of taking their dictations and having them send those dictations to me for transcription goes, like should i send them a recording machine or anything like that? do you know a website for work-at-home MTs? thanks so much. your replies will be highly appreciated.

It helps to have a good understanding of the business before you jump into it. You don’t need to be certified or even have a degree in it, but it certainly helps. It’s also beneficial for you to take a course or two for medical terminology – this is a major factor in transcribing – to understand what the doctor is trying to say with an accent, eating his lunch and dictating at the same time
