Does anyone know anything about formulas for medical transcription?

July 28, 2010

I am doing a transcription case study. Here’s the scenario….A dept is opened Mon-. It is responsible for transcribing an average of 200,000 lines of dictation in each 4-week period. The minimum standard unit is 1,000 lines per day. How many FTE(full time equivalent) transcriptions are needed to staff the unit?

They need 10 full time MTs. Each MT would transcribe 1000 lines per day to equal 5,000 lines per week per MT which equals 50,000 lines per week total by all 10 MTs. If you x that by 4 weeks, you get 200,000 lines per month. Here is the formula in full:

10 MTs transcribing 1,000 lines per day = $50,000 lines total per week
50,000 lines per week x 4 weeks = 200,000 lines per month.

I take it that the course you chose is using the Hillcrest and Forrest dictation. This is not detailed enough for you and you will need to follow up using either the SUM program or the Absolute Experience tapes. The Hillcrest and Forrest dictation program is far too easy and doesn’t simulate real world dictation.

Can you elaborate on your question? Are you referring to how to type formulas, or are you referring to something else such as macros? Perhaps an example would help. You may find help for typing formulas on the referenced website.
