I took a certification course near me which only took about 3-4 months (2x/week). But you can go to
http://www.aamt.org
website and pull up a list of qualified schools/programs for training.
I found you want to have a good background in medical terminology, good medical and drug dictionaries on hand and to any books or information on a specialized field that interests you. (Oncology, Gastroenterology, Cardiology, etc.)
I don’t do medical transcription, but I do work at home in the health care field. I really enjoy my career and I would be happy to share details. The company is awsome and offers 401k, benefits and is even a bbb member and member of the US Chamber of Commerce. What I do is mostly on the computer. If you are the sort of person who enjoys helping others maybe it would work well for you.
My name is Kate Delaney and I'm from Illinois.
I created this site to share my story about how I made a mid-life career change that changed my life.
I went from being a high school graduate with a series of low paying jobs, and even some time on unemployment, to becoming a professional with a stable and well-paying career.
I found the training, financial aid, and even job placement help all online. Now, I don't have a job; I have a career! I'm a Medical Transcriptionist and I love it! Read my story.
