There are many sites on line claiming to teach you medical transcription, yet, there are a bunch of scams out there. I’m trying to find one that is legit. Do you know of anyone who has taken this route and is able to work from home successfully? How did they go about doing it?
I would like to be able to work from home. I have heard of people doing medical transcription work at home..?

I work at home in the MT field. I’m also studying coding and billing. I trained online w/ Meditec.com. They have an internship to help you get started and they’ve been in business over 40 years so they have stood the test of time. Yes, be careful about scams; However, working at home as an MT is not a scam. There are some training programs that are subpar though, so choose one that is good and that will help you get started working. Good luck.
I haven’t found anyone to have success with these types of online job training. My opinion is that you need hands on experience with medical transcription. It is not that easy. You need to learn medical terminology, learn how to work with a pedal, etc. It’s not as easy as these sites claim. There is a lot to learn. Plus, a lot of these online places are not truly accredited, so an employer may not accept this a real training.
It would be great if these online schools and courses were legit, but unfortunately, a lot of them are just scams.
Just to let you know the entire medical field is moving to an electronic medical record. As a result all medical transcription is going to be done at point of service by the provider. Medical transcription, as it is now known, is more than likely not going to be a career option in 3 to 5 years.
I blogged about a couple "Work at Home" programs I used that actually work. Here is my site. http://www.moms-job.com
