I would like advice from individuals currently in this field. I have a BA (not medically related) and have work experience in the medical field, including coding, billing and transcription. Please let me know if you have any insight! Thanks!
I've been interested in a career in Medical Transcription, Billing & Coding but don't know how to get started?

When you apply for a job in medical coding and billing or medical transcription, the employer will test your skills before they will even look at your application. Actually, you have to take a test as part of the application process. Then if you pass, they will look at your resume. So if you feel like you have sufficient skills in these areas from your past experience, then training may not be needed. You can take a test and see how you do to determine if you should explore training options or not. I would suggest that you take a pre-employment test from a company that you do not want to work for just in case you don’t pass- you don’t want to leave a bad first impression.
Anyway, if you feel like you need training in these areas, then that is where you should start. There are online training options that make it nice for people with busy/crazy schedules. Otherwise, your local college or university may have some training options for you. An online school can take you from about 5 months to a year to complete since it is a self paced program. The time it takes you depends on how much time you devote to the course.
Once you are ready to start applying for jobs, then you can look at your local hospital or doctors’ offices for jobs or you can find medical coding and billing companies or medical transcription companies.
The medical environment holds a variety of different careers from the obvious nurse and doctor careers to adminstrative careers. My sister really wanted to work in this area, but she wasn’t sure perfectly what she really wanted to do. She stumbled upon the resource in the resource box below, it has lots of tips and tricks, and it guided her to settle what she really wanted to do. They have help with other jobs too.
I have met similiar problem before, here list of sites http://webfin.notlong.com/8AA9xf4
If you want a career making $12 — $15 an hour, by all means do so.
My GF did this for 10 years. That department is full of grown women acting like they’re in 8th grade. (lots of stupid f–king drama). We thank GOD daily she’s no longer in that place.
I know, I still work in the same hospital (in the neurology & sleep lab.)
It sounds like your work experience in the medical field will be a good foundation. You can enroll in training program for medical transcription, medical billing or medical coding. U.S. Career Institute has programs in all three of these, so you can visit the site and check out the courses (http://www.uscareerinstitute.edu). Hope this helps!
